endcommercial
is a unique reading of the city, a visual research project of urban
street territory, with over 100 000 photos taken since 1997.
Created
by Scheppe Böhm Associates (New York / Munich),
with photographs by Florian Böhm, Luca Pizzaroni and Wolfgang
Scheppe, the project maps the city of New York in its details -
encoded into broken bicycles, markings on pavement, words on signs
and on concrete, the ubiquity of plastic bags, the nomadic rituals
of street vendors-- unveiling embedded social conditions and contradictions
endcommercial
demonstrates that between urban structures and individual existence,
organic and improvised systems emerge. Situated beyond the sophisticated
economy and below a level of recognition, they are familiar yet
paradoxically invisible.
